Bagdads historia
Bagdad grundades av abbasiderna år Staden förlades vid floden Tigris några mil söder om Persiens gamla huvudstad Ktesifon, som låg vid Sidenvägen mellan Medelhavet och Kina. Från Bagdad gick det också en karavanled norrut till Kievriket. Söderut kunde man färdas på floden Tigris till Basra vid Persiska viken.
Detta centrala läge inbjöd till många invasioner, buwayhiderna år och seldjukerna år År skövlades staden av mongolerna under Hülegü Khan. År förstördes Bagdad återigen denna gång av Timur Lenk, en uzbekisk krigsherre. Från ingick Bagdad i det Osmanska riket ända tills första världskriget då landet erövrades av britterna. Sedan är Bagdad huvudstad i det självständiga Irak.
Förhistoria

Abstract
As the head of the investigation into one of the greatest art crimes in recent memory – the looting of the Iraq Museum in – inom have spent more than 6 years attempting to recover and return to the Iraqi people their priceless heritage (Bogdanos a, b). inom have spent a significant amount of that time, however, attempting to correct the almost universal misconceptions about what happened at the museum in those fateful days in April , to increase awareness of the continuing cultural catastrophe that is represented by the illegal trade in stolen antiquities, and to highlight the need for the concerted and cooperative efforts of the international community to preserve, protect, and recover the shared cultural heritage of all humanity.
